EngageNY English Language Arts

Edep Academy adopted EngageNY English Language Arts curriculum developed by NYSED with the implementation of Common Core Learning Standards.  Curriculum materials for ELA subjects are structured into 4 levels of hierarchy navigated by grade, then by various modules within the grade. Each module is divided into units, and each unit is further divided into lessons.

Curriculum materials:

  • Support teaching and learning and provide access to sequenced, spiraled, content-rich curriculum programming and instructional practices that support the attainment of the CCLS.
  • Include teaching and learning experiences that scaffold through grade levels, are focused on gradual learning progressions, and project a trajectory of learning standards in each content area (English Language Arts & Literacy).
  • Incorporate curriculum maps, lesson plans, performance tasks, scaffolding materials, samples of student work, and other classroom artifacts. Newly developed modules will provide curriculum and instructional resources targeted to address all learners within any classroom setting.
  • Emphasize resources that are planned and developed according to the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL), and are able to be used by all students, including:
    • English language learners (ELL)
    • Students with disabilities (SWD)
    • Accelerated learners
    • Students achieving and performing below grade level.

Curriculum modules include:

  • Year-long scope and sequence documents

The Progressive Science Initiative®  empower educators to increase student engagement in K-12 science and mathematics, boost achievement and transform schools. PSI shake up traditional education with a powerful and fully integrated approach that includes not only course materials, but also innovative and effective recommendations for curriculum, teaching methods, environment, scheduling, policies, and practices.

PSI create an engaging environment for students. PSI classrooms are filled with lively debate and collaborative problem-solving. They make science and math the favorite subjects of many students as they achieve exceptional understanding. Interactive Whiteboards (IWBs) are used to deliver PSI course content in the classroom.

Center for Teaching and Learning programs replace textbooks with free digital content aligned to new standards in science and mathematics. Our content is used both in classrooms on Interactive White Boards (IWB) as well as distributed to students either as printouts or electronically.

The curriculum is updated frequently using the feedback from teachers using it in classrooms around the world. This allows the material to remain current and relevant.
